The Galaxy S5 posted record-breaking sales on launch day, with 30 percent more units than its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, claims a new report out of Korea.
The sales of the new flagship device were reportedly double the sales of Galaxy S4, in some European markets. However, the Korean electronics giant has not yet revealed any official sales figure.
According to the report from ZDNet Korea, the Samsung Galaxy S5 outperformed the sales of its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 by 30 percent to 100 percent in several markets worldwide, while indicating strong sales in Australia and India.
An anonymous Samsung representative has confirmed the Galaxy S5 sales to have reached millions so far, with reports of stock depletion in several markets.
Samsung Tomorrow also claims Galaxy S5 to have sold better than last year’s Galaxy S4 did during the opening weekend.
The Galaxy S4 had a runaway success last year with over 10 million units sold in just one month after the launch. The figure is expected to be surpassed by the new Galaxy S5.
Samsung Galaxy S5 was first unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in February. The Galaxy S5, along with Gear Fit, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, landed on Friday in 125 countries, marking the largest-ever simultaneous global launch. The smartphone is also scheduled to be rolled out in 25 more markets this week, making it a total of 150 markets.
The Galaxy S5 SIM-free units are priced at $699 in the US and around $599 in Europe and Asia, while the device is available with all the major carriers at $199 or $249.
