Samsung’s new Galaxy S5 smartphone has already outperformed its predecessor Galaxy S4, defying early predictions, with a sales figure in millions so far; however, Samsung is expecting something more like around 35 million units of its flagship device Galaxy S5 to be shipped in the first three months of 2014, Korean Times has reported.
Samsung insiders claim this upbeat prediction of shipments to be the result of the strong sales of the device during its worldwide launch.
According to the Korean Times, Samsung Galaxy S5 has shipped 1.3 times as many as the Galaxy S4 did on the launch day. Samsung is expected to earn over 17 trillion won (around $16.3 billion) in revenue, if this new target of 35 million shipments is met. The report also notes that investors as well as analysts are impressed with the Galaxy S5’s performance.
“Against earlier expectations, the S5 was well-received by consumers in the global market. We don’t have any plans to advise our big clients to unload their Samsung stock,” said one senior fund manager speaking to The Korea Times.
Earlier this week, ZDNet Korea reported that the Galaxy S5 surpassed the sales of Galaxy S4 by 30 percent to 100 percent in several markets worldwide, with many stock depletion reports. In some European markets, the sales of the Galaxy S5 were 200 percent more than the sales of Galaxy S4.
The Samsung insiders reported that the company has shipped 63 million Galaxy S4 units and sold 40 million units in total since its launch last year.
However, Samsung is yet to officially release sales figures and targets for the new Galaxy S5 device.
