Those eagerly waiting for the Samsung Chromebook 2 in the UK won’t have to for much longer as the ARM powered Chrome OS running laptop will be going on sale starting this May.
Available in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch versions, the Chromebook 2 is more or less a refresh of the first-generation Chromebook from Samsung. The latest Chrome OS laptop pack a larger battery and takes a cue from Note 3 smartphone in terms of faux leather look complete with stitching.
In terms of specifications, both the models pack slightly different hardware. The 11.6-inch variant is powered by 1.9GHz Samsung Exynos 5 Octa CPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and has a display resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels.
The 13.3-inch variant on the other hand packs more powerful hardware – 2.1GHz Exynos 5 Octa CPU, 4GB RAM, 16GB storage, full HD 1,920 x 1,080p display, and a battery that should last at least 8.5 hours.
Samsung is yet to announce the pricing of Chromebook 2 in the UK, but in the US the 11.6-inch variant is being sold for $319.99, while the 13.3-inch variant costs $399.99.
Chromebooks have been picking up lately, but it seems that analysts are not on the same page as far as sales numbers are concerned. According to NPD Chromebooks accounted for 21 percent of all laptop sales in the US in 2013, but IDC is of the option that Chromebooks accounted for only 1 percent of global sales last year.
