According to Android Police co-founder Artem Russakovskii, Google is going to launch its own smartwatch ‘Gem’ alongside Android 4.4 KitKat and rumoured Nexus 5 in October.
Russakovskii hasn’t posted any report on Android Police as he didn’t want to post something for which he didn’t have any visual evidence. Keeping this update limited to just a Google+ Post, Russakovskii notes “Google will announce a Nexus watch, codenamed Gem, likely together with the KitKat announcement.”
Google releasing its own smartwatch makes a lots of sense as it will not only instill confidence in Android developers, but it will also get a head-start against Apple, which is rumoured to announce its own smartwatch ‘iWatch’ sometime in 2014.
Artem had previously claimed that Android 4.4 KitKat was slated for an October 31 launch, but as the date was given to him about a year back, chances are that the launch date and time will have changed by now.
In the last week of September Nexus 5 running Android 4.4 KitKat showed up following which there reports that Nexus 5 may very well be the first smartphone to bring MEMS camera technology to the front line.
A triple launch of Android 4.4 Kitkat, Nexus 5 and Gem smartwatch will give gadget lovers the whole package to play with and it may give the Nexus lineup the much required boost.
