Just before Nokia’s October 22 Abu Dhabi Nokia World event, the company has got a reason to celebrate. Per report on the Wall Street Journal, Nokia’s flagship Lumia smartphone range sales have hit a record high of “at least eight million” for the fourth June-September quarter.
Sales have tripled as compared to 2.9 million sales in the same period last year and are even more than last quarter’s 7.4 million. Though the figures are quite low as compared to what Apple and Samsung have managed to garner, Nokia’s efforts to revamp the Windows Phone platform is gradually working.
As per market research reports, Windows smartphone sales between May and July accounted for 8.2 percent across five major European markets. Nokia is presently at the third spot and is still way behind iOS and Android.
Nokia is expected to release as many as six new devices including the Lumia 2520, which will be the company’s first tablet, and Lumia 1520 at the Nokia World event. A Nokia smartwatch patent emerged just last week, but we don’t expect launch of this device from Nokia this time around as it may very well be in a prototype stage.
Apple’s iPad event is also slated for October 22 and this event will likely gatecrash Nokia’s event.
