Sony, on Thursday, rolled out a major PlayStation 4 update that adds the much demanded ‘suspend-resume’ feature among others.
The PS4 software update version 2.50, codenamed “Yukimura,” will let gamers suspend a game, put PS4 in standby and then reload it at will and pick up the game from exactly where they had left off. Sony has confirmed that the suspend/resume feature will work on “nearly all of your PS4 games.”
Gamers will now be able to backup and restore their hard-drive data, including screenshots, settings and video clips to an external USB drive, and more easily connect with friends. The new friend finder feature will enable gamers to search for Facebook friends within the Sony network and connect with a single-step invite. Once invited, gamers can even see which friends are online and playing the same games via a new “Friends Who Play This” viewing window.
Other additions include 60fps support for Share Play, automatic installation option for system software updates, sub-account upgrades, new verified accounts for developers and community managers, and the ability to upload video clips directly to Dailymotion via the Share button.
The update also adds improved and expanded accessibility options, including customized button assignments for DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller, zoom for displayed pictures and inverted colors for all system functions, among others. In addition, the improved trophies feature will let players share their proudest gaming moments by showing off screenshots of trophies earned.
“We are constantly listening to feedback from our growing community regarding improvements to make their PlayStation experience even better,” John Koller, vice president of platforms marketing at Sony, said in a statement announcing the new update.
John also noted that the handheld PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation app for smartphones and tablets will also receive updates.
“PlayStation Vita and PlayStation App for smartphones and tablets will also receive system software updates tonight, adding complementary features to those added to PS4. PS Vita update version 3.50 and PlayStation App update version 2.50 will add new accessibility options, including enlarged text, increased contrast and more. This update also enables PS Vita to support 60fps streaming for Remote Play,” he said.
