Slightly Mad Studios’ recently released racing gaming title ‘Project CARS’ has dethroned Mortal Kombat X to regain first spot in the U.K. gaming retail charts for the week ending May 9.
Project CARS, which released on PS4, Xbox One and PC last week, sold 63 per cent of its debut week total on Sony’s console, 31 per cent on Xbox One and 6 per cent on PC. It is the first racing game to hit the UK No.1 spot since Codemasters’ GRID 2 back in 2013.
GTA 5 maintained its second position, while Mortal Kombat X, which remained the best-selling game for around three weeks, had to settle for third place this time around. Rounding off the top five were FIFA 15 and Dying Light at fourth and fifth positions respectively.
The next-best debut launch was of Nintendo’s Wii U effort Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush, which debuted at number 21. 3DS compilation Puzzle & Dragons Z + Super Mario Edition was the only other fresh face in the Top 40 list, landing in at number 32.
