Recent reports suggest Apple has postponed launch of its larger 12.9-inch iPad in wake of supply chain issues.
According to Bloomberg News, citing people familiar with the matter, launch of Apple’s 12.9-inch tablet version, which was expected to go in to production this quarter, has been delayed until around September due to issues with display panel supply.
“Production of the 12.9-inch-screen iPad is now scheduled to start around September because of delays involving the supply of display panels, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the details aren’t public. Apple had initially planned to begin making the larger version this quarter, people familiar those plans had said,” the Bloomberg report reads.
With the launch of a new ‘big’ tablet Apple is hoping to revive back its iPad product line which has seen decline for the last four quarters. IPads are also facing tough competition from Apple’s own line of larger iPhones which were launched last year in September and helped the Cupertino deliver record profit in the latest quarter.
The California-based company currently has the 9.7-inch iPad and the 7.9-inch iPad mini in its kitty. The company hasn’t disclosed plans for a bigger iPad yet.
