PopCap has rolled out its Plants vs. Zombies 2 for Android in Australia and New Zealand under a soft launch just like it did with its iOS version, before its global release.
The Android edition of the game will be made available to the users free of charge. The Android version is already available in China and with a debut in Japan last month, the game will be rolled out globally soon says PopCap.
Plants vs. Zombies 2 will see players using plants to protect themselves against zombies’ waves coming out from the backyard, but the primary difference in this one and its predecessor is that the game spans the reaches of time, both in past and future.
Plants vs. Zombies 2 comes with new power-ups allowing users to directly interact with zombies as well as plant food allowing them to super-charge their plants to fend off powerful zombie attacks. PopCap will be rolling out regular updates which will include new worlds, plants, levels, zombies and play sets giving us a feeling that the game has been designed from its core to be kind of a “live service”.
The iOS version of the game saw an August release and has seen over 25 million downloads. The reason that the Android version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 is seeing an October release, as Frank Gibeau was quoted, is allegedly because Apple paid EA “truckload of money” to delay the Android version. Both the companies have denied any knowledge of such transaction.
