All those who are planning to use their existing Bluetooth headsets for voice calls / chats are in for a surprise as Sony has confirmed to Game Informer that the PlayStation 4 will not be support such headsets out of the box and users will have to wait for a system update.
This means that all those users who either have a Sony-branded PULSE gaming headset or the elite edition of the same product will have to wait for a PlayStation 4 system update to use them. These headsets will not work on November 15 or quite a few days after that.
Further, now this is interesting, any other headset that relies on Bluetooth will not work at all. Users can still use a USB based headset, but again not until Sony releases a system update for PlayStation 4 in future. This is in stark contrast to PlayStation 3 as the gaming console supported all such headsets right out of the box.
Xbox users are also stuck at this point as Xbox One connector is completely different and up until Microsoft provides an adapter, users will not be able to use any legacy headset devices.
As Game Informer notes, “While it’s good that these headsets will eventually work, it’s a shame that both platform holders won’t be ready to support them at launch. Gaming headsets are significant investments that can cost hundreds of dollars.”
