Sony’s gaming console PlayStation 4 US sales surpassed Microsoft’s Xbox One sales during the month of February, claims market researcher.
According to a latest NPD Group Sony sold approximately 287,000 PlayStation 4s in February as compared to Microsoft which sold about 258,000 Xbox Ones, reported Bloomberg.
Liam Callahan, an NPD analyst, said: “PS4 led hardware sales in February 2014, but by a narrow margin with Xbox One selling over 90 percent of what the PS4 sold in terms of unit sales.”
Although PlayStation 4, retailing for $399, bagged the lead in terms of sales, Xbox One retailing for $499, topped in terms of revenue generation.
“With Xbox One’s higher price point it led hardware sales on a dollar basis”, added Callahan.
New York based NPD also revealed that the total US retail spending on video games, including hardware, software and accessories, rose 9 percent to $887 million.
Comparing sale figures of Xbox One to Xbox 360, Microsoft said: “February NPD Group figures released today showed that Xbox One continues selling at a record-breaking pace with 258,000 units sold in the US in the month of February, surpassing Xbox 360 sales by over 61 percent at the same point in time.”
Microsoft is optimistic after the launch of Titanfall a couple of days back and claims that sales figures for the month could get a boost from that game.
