Sony announced today that the PlayStation 4 global sales have surpassed 6 million units, in less than four months from the November 15 launch. PS4 is available in 57 countries around the world.
The company has sent out press release confirming the milestone, and also stated that the figure of 6 million includes the sale of 370,000 PS4 units in Japan since its launch on February 22 and in just a couple of days, the sales figure passed over 322,083 units.
“I am absolutely delighted that PS4 is off to such a great start in Japan,” said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony.
“The responses we have received for the PS4 system’s integrated social capabilities have been phenomenal, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that gamers are utilizing these unique features to engage, share, play and connect with users around the world.”
In addition to the consoles sold, Sony has also announced PS4 software sales to have hit 13.7 million units worldwide; covering both boxed and digital sales, or on an average – 2.2 games per machine.
Sony also revealed that more than half of PS4 owners have purchased the $49/year PS Plus membership as of March 2 and the official PlayStation App has been download over 3.6 million times including Android as well as iOS devices.
The company said around 100 million shares have been captured via the PS4’s “Share” button, along with more than 3.6 million game play broadcasts streamed from PS4s via Twitch and Ustream, resulting in over 56 million spectator sessions.
Sony reported that Guerrilla Games’ shooter Killzone: Shadow Fall has sold over 2.1 million units worldwide to-date.
The company also touted future releases ‘The Witness,’ ‘Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes,’ ‘Kingdom Hearts 3,’ ‘The Order: 1886, #Driveclub,’ ‘Watch Dogs’ and March’s first-party release ‘inFamous: Second Son.’
