Ouya has delivered a huge system update today that brings with it features such as support for external storage, revamped UI and a whole lot of bug fixes.
Dubbed “Abominable Snowman” the biggest update yet adds external storage support in open beta. Users can plug in an NTFS, FAT32, or ext4 formatted USB drive in their console and start playing games stored there.
One of the limitation as of now is that “Games on external storage are currently associated with the OUYA they were downloaded from” so users won’t be able to transfer a game from one Ouya to another. Considering this is an open beta, Ouya has listed quite a few known issues including system slowdown, screen turning orange, and inability to properly move games to external storage among others. Ouya has assured that all the known issues with external storage will be fixed in the next update.
The new update brings in a revamped UI that is geared more towards gamers. Game titles will be prominently shown below the title art making it easier for gamers to browse. Game icons have been tweaked to show availability of an update. Gamers will also be able to see controller indications for all connected controllers and a low battery notification has also been added.
Double tap on the Ouya button will now bring up the system menu rather than exiting the game. The system menu will have the options to exit games, eject a USB drive, turn off controllers, or put OUYA into sleep mode.
Developers have a lot to gain from the update as they “can now create links that allow you to download their game to your OUYA from the web. These links aren’t just confined to the ouya.tv site, they can be placed on any webpage.”

‘Games on external storage are currently associated with the OUYA they were downloaded from’ see if OUYA can do it, why the fuck can’t my PS4 let me store all my games on an external? I mean come on, 500gb is barely enough, i’ve already filled most of it leaving only 100gb left which will probably only be another 3-4 games -_-
