Software maker Oracle on Sunday announced it has signed a deal to acquire content storage management startup Front Porch Digital.
Front Porch Digital specializes in helping large scale companies with migration, integration, storage, and delivery of digital media content including high definition films and TV shows, medical images and records, and real-time security monitoring feeds.
With over 550 customers, the Lafayette, Colorado based company currently manages more than 750 petabyte of data. Media business firms including A&E Television, BBC, Discovery and Nascar as well as government agencies including the U.S. Library of Congress and the European Parliament are some of the renowned names that makes use of Front Porch’s technology.
Oracle said combining technologies of the two companies will help create an enterprise-grade cloud and on-premise content storage management that will offer organizations manage the migration, integration, storage, and delivery of rich media content.
The deal would provide the software maker access to Front Porch Digital’s DIVASolutions content storage management system, a media migration technology called Samma, and Lynx cloud-based content management.
John Fowler, executive vice president of Oracle Systems commenting on the deal said growing organizations need a modern, integrated content storage management solution to manage and monetize their valuable rich media assets.
He said Front Porch Digital’s success and unique capabilities will complement Oracle’s existing high performance and scalable engineered storage solutions to help the company deliver innovative and expertise content storage management solutions to customers.
Front Porch Digital will continue to operate as an independent company until the deal gets closed by 2014 end. Terms of the deal remained undisclosed.
