The latest report from eMarketer suggests that more than 25 percent of UK population will be using Twitter by 2018, reaching 17.1 million users, a jump from three in 10 social network users in 2012.
Twitter reported 12 million active users in the UK by the end of 2013, with 40.6 percent of them accessing their Twitter account at least once in a month.
eMarketer expects this figure to rise to 21.1 percent of the UK population by the end of 2014. Breaking down this further, the research firm notes that 25-34 year olds will account for 25.4 percent of Twitter users, 18-24 year olds will take a 24.5 percent share, while 65 and above age group to increase by 37.8 percent this year.
The report explains “The continuing growth of the Twitter audience follows typical patterns for post-early-adoption social networking sites. After Facebook attracted a core of teen and young adult users, those users’ parents and grandparents started signing up, and the social networking giant saw its main growth coming from the oldest and youngest users.”
“This pattern is repeating itself on Twitter in the UK: While young children still have substantial growth rates, the 12-to-44-year-old population has slowed to around or below the average growth rate for the service. Meanwhile, we expect usage among those ages 65 and older to increase by 37.8% this year.”
eMarketer’s figures conflict with the figures reported by Twitter’s former UK general manager Tony Wang that the network had 15 million users in the UK in September 2013.
eMarketer, however, confirmed that the figures from its latest report is based on multiple sources and doesn’t include multiple accounts, fake accounts or business-related accounts.

No they won’t.
Nobody wants to listen to their drivel either.
This is more financial propaganda designed to cheer on the ‘Buy Twitter Stock!’ aimed at the muppets.
