O2 has collaborated with design company Is This Good? for its O2 Recycle programme to promote recycling of mobile phones in a unique way – mechanical butterflies that interact.
The mechanical butterflies have been built using discarded mobile phones and the design company took over six months to master the design. The result is fascinating for the fact that the each such butterfly, which is made up of as many as six mobile phones, will carry a number which when called upon will make the butterfly flap its wings or flash different colour lights on its screens.
The manner in which the mechanical butterfly will react is completely dependent on the numbers in the caller’s mobile phone number – meaning that each caller will see a different display.
O2 Recycle’s idea is that through such innovations and creativity, users will be motivated to recycle their old mobile phones when they are done with them. O2 Recycle isn’t asking users to create such butterflies, but is instead offering cash to all those who give in their old handsets for recycling.
O2 is offering as much as £110 for an iPhone 4S – a value that again depends on the condition of the handset. Users can find out more information about O2 Recycle programme here.
Creative Director at Is This Good? said, “We hoped that, by creating ‘Social Butterflies’, we would raise a smile and remind people that we can create moments of recognition and happiness out of products we have previously loved and now overlook.”
