Barnes & Noble have revealed that sales of Nook devices and its accessories have dropped by a whopping 66.7 percent year on year during the festive season owning to lack of new models.
Barnes & Noble managed to clock in revenues of just £53.8 million [$88.7 million] during the nine-week period including Christmas in 2013 when it comes to device and accessories sales – a 66.7 percent decline year-on-year, while it registered revenue of £75 million [$125 million] for the entire Nook segment – a 60.5 percent decline.
“Digital content sales were $36.5 million for the holiday period, a decline of 27.3% compared to a year ago due to lower device unit sales and lower average selling prices”, revealed B&N.
Michael P. Huseby, CEO of Barnes & Noble, attributed the decline in sales to lack of new tablet models in 2013. “Sales in the NOOK segment declined year-over-year largely because during the previous holiday season the company introduced two new tablet products, while no new tablets were introduced this year”, said Huseby.
Huseby revealed that the company had strong sales through its physical stores, which were comparatively flat in the first half of 2013.
