Nokia may have tried to steer clear of Android look and feel with its redesign windows tile-like interface in Nokia X, but it was always a questions of when and not if hackers will tinker around to root the device and run native Android apps. That time has come within a matter of days as an XDA-developers member has managed to hack his Nokia X to run Google Play and other apps.
XDA-developers member Kashamalaga won two Nokia X developer devices last week at the MWC 2014 and after returning home, he got to work without wasting much time. The developer has listed five simple steps in which a Nokia X user can run Google Play Store, Google Apps and even Google Now Launcher.
As I noted earlier it was a question of when and not if, but may be a little embarrassing for Nokia considering how Stephen Elop was describing the move away from conventional Android looks and Google Apps as a means of promoting Microsoft apps and Windows Phone UI.
Considering that hackers have managed to run Google Apps, the question is when will be see an update on XDA-developers or a similar forum that details steps to run stock Android or CyanogenMod operating system.
Kashamalaga tweeted his achievement and in response Nokia Developer Team said that they were happy and excited to see that progress is being made.
