Nokia 3600 Review: February 2009
The Nokia 3600 Slide is a perfect example of what Nokia is capable of creating when they aren’t trying too hard. This GSM mobile phone runs less than £100 and is full of every possible feature you could hope for at this price including a camera! This palm sized mobile phone looks good whether you are talking or just holding it in your hand. The slide portion of the phone is smooth and when open it reveals a “just the right size” keypad that makes texting easy. Once you slide open the phone the colour display, made up of 16 million colours, appears and provides the typical graphics and Nokia menus.
The phone might look good and cost less than £100, but it really does pack some amazing features with the autofocus 3.2 megapixel camera and a double LED flash. Pictures are high quality and can even be printed and used. The video camera also works pretty well, too, with its VGA resolution. Don’t expect video calling from this 2G phone though.
The music player on the 3600 Slide plays a variety of popular music formats (WMA, eAAC+, AAC+, AAC, and MP3) and also boasts an FM radio. The sound is excellent when played through headphones and okay when played through the phone’s speakers. For some reason Nokia did not include a 3.5mm headphone jacket although it does include the Nokia headphones and a 2.5mm socket.
As an optional accessory you may prefer a stereo Bluetooth headset. With the 30MB of storage you can store about six MP3s, but no more. For those who need more music than this the mobile phone comes with a 512 MB card and you can upgrade to 4GB so you can have thousands of songs on your phone.
High end features like GPS won’t be on the phone, but the features the Nokia 3600 Slide includes is amazing for the price. The Opera web browser, Nokia Search, and Nokia Maps are just a few of the features you’ll find. USB and Bluetooth are both available and since it’s quad band you can use it worldwide.
The only problem with the Nokia 3600 Slide is the battery. For some reason Nokia has been unable to correct the battery life issue in their slide phones and you won’t find any difference with the 3600. The battery life is limited and those who are heavy mobile phone users won’t be happy at all. Nokia isn’t a mobile phone for heavy phone users unless you are willing to invest more money. On the other hand, if you don’t use the mobile phone much you will find the 3600 Slide to be excellent. If it wasn’t for the battery we would have rated it 5 stars.
