New reports suggest next generation Google Glass is already in the making.
According to a report on The Wall Street Journal, the chief executive of Italian eyewear company Luxottica, Massimo Vian, while addressing the company’s general meeting in Milan, Italy, said that his company is working on the next Google Glass version. He said it’s coming soon, but did not give a specific timeline.
“The partnership with the US tech giant to build Glass is going ahead,” Vian said.
He revealed that a third version is also in the works, and there are currently “second thoughts” on how it’ll look like.
“In Google, there are some second thoughts on how to interpret version 3 (of the eyewear),” Vian told shareholders during the meeting.
“What you saw was version 1. We are now working on version 2 which is in preparation.”
Luxottica is the same company that makes Ray-Ban and Oakley sunglasses, and has been in partnership with Google since May last year to make frames for the device.
A Google spokeswoman said that “the team is heads down building the future of the product,” but declined to comment on specifics.
It was back in January, when Google decided to cease sales of the first version of Google Glass and shut down the Glass Explorer Program. The company further announced the project was “graduating” from Google[x] and that it was “moving even more from concept to reality.”
