With the Christmas holiday shopping season nearing, Parents have started looking out for the best gifts for their children and according to a new study conducted by uSwitch, around 80 percent parents will be spending on an average £243 on electronic gifts for their kids this Christmas, while around 16 percent will be spending more than £400 on Christmas gifts.
The most preferred electronic gift this holiday season is tablets, with 24 percent parents opting for it. Video games are just behind tablets with 17 percent of the parents adding it to their Christmas shopping list, while smartphones and digital cameras follow with 13 percent and 12 percent parents opting for them respectively. E-readers with 11 percent preference and smartwatches with 6 percent preference are also popular among parents.
According to experts over at uSwitch, kids are demanding latest technology gadgets this Christmas and parents are under pressure to juggle “Christmas wish lists with household budgets”. One good thing that has happened within the last couple of months is the advent of cheaper Android tablets that would easily fit budgets of many families.
Ernet Doku, a telecoms expert at uSwitch said, “Any parent worried about keeping the cost of Christmas gifts down should make sure they get the best deal, and perhaps think outside of the big names. Many of the bargain priced smartphones and tablets are actually still relatively high spec.”
“Some Christmas lists may seem unreasonable and make for expensive reading, but a little bit of savvy shopping could help parents enjoy a peaceful Christmas – as well as a debt-free New Year”, Doku added.
