Motorola is planning to launch a new 6.3-inch phablet between July and September 2014, a Weibo forum user has claimed.
The tipster in question was the first to share the company’s smartwatch plans and also has a track record in correctly calling it with the release dates of the Moto X and Moto G smartphones last year.
The specifications of the large-size smartphone, dubbed Motorola Xplay, are still under wraps. According to the previous rumors, the phablet will land with a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
Motorola, acquired by Lenovo for $2.91 billion from Google, hasn’t officially commented on its future plans. Lenovo, however, revealed that the release schedule of Motorola for the year 2014 and 2015 will be kept as it was before the acquisition.
Back in October 2013, the company’s plans for a phablet were first rumored with the Xplay to challenge the 6.4-inch Sony Xperia Z Ultra for the title as the largest-screened phone.
The rumors claimed that Motorola would reveal the 6.3-inch handset Xplay smartphone soon after the launch of Moto X. It was also suggested that the company might ditch the name Xplay as there are a number of devices with the same name.
Even with the recent report, the tipster had made no confirmation of the Motorola Xplay moniker, as well as hasn’t revealed any specifications. The latest rumors also suggest that the company’s upcoming 6.3-inch phablet will be rolled out under a different name.
As for now, there aren’t any more details than a potential release date in the third quarter of 2014 and the reported 6.3-inch screen, making this new device the Motorola’s largest smartphone to date.
