BBM’s official rollout was hampered last week and BlackBerry has now revealed that it won’t be launching the cross-platform messenger for at least another week because of issues caused by leaked version of BBM.
BBM for Android was slated for a September 21 launch with iOS version landing the very next day, but everything went tits-up with neither the Android version going live on Saturday nor the iOS version hitting App Store on Sunday. The initial reason provided by BlackBerry was that there were too many registrations within the first eight hours of opening up its BBM servers and that too before the official launch of BBM for Android. According to estimates there were as many as 2.5 million pre-registrations before the official version hit Google Play Store.
BlackBerry has now made it clear that BBM app won’t be rolled out to Apple and Android devices probably until next week. Blackberry said “The team is now focused on adjusting the system to completely block this unreleased version of the Android app when we go live with the official BBM for Android app”.
The company claimed that resolving issues arising out of unofficial versions of an app may look simple but they are not. BlackBerry also revealed that it will be taking steps to ensure that such scenarios don’t get repeated in the future.
