Microsoft’s executive vice president, Marketing, Tami Reller, while speaking at the Goldman Sachs tech conference revealed that Microsoft has got lot of opportunities with their Windows RT and hinted at a possible merger of Windows RT and Windows Phone. Reller, however, hasn’t explicitly stated the possibility.
“Terry Myerson and the OS group are really looking at how do we make sure we’ve got a world-class mobile operating system moving forward, and what will that mean for our tablet and mobile strategy,” Reller said in a statement.
“I think there’s a lot of opportunities to do some things there that take that forward in an interesting way.”
Reller also made it clear that the company is very pleased with the reception of Surface 2, as she claimed the customer satisfaction levels for Surface 2 rival any other very popular tablet available in the market.
During the conference, Tami Reller also announced that Windows 8 has hit 200 million licenses sold milestone in 16 months.
“And Windows 8, you know, we’re being very thoughtful about what’s going well, what’s not going well, how do we change that,” she said.
“We surpassed 200 million licenses now on Windows 8, which is pretty stunning. A lot of traction and yet a lot more work to do.” Windows 7 surpassed this number in 12 months with 240 million sales.
Reller noted that Microsoft’s integration planning with Nokia is going very well and the close to be “somewhere just around the corner”. She claimed Windows Phone to be “firmly in the third ecosystem spot,” and to be “ahead of the iPhone in share” in 25 markets across the globe.
