A leaked Microsoft document has revealed answers to the big question of when Microsoft will kill the Nokia brand.
Following the acquisition, both companies have remained tight lipped about this question and now evleaks, the popular informer whose rumours have turned out to be true in the past has caught a glimpse of a Microsoft document, which has the answers possibly.
The document was reportedly distributed to the former employees of Nokia who are now in Microsoft family. The Brand FAQs section of the document says that the Nokia brand name will be phased out in various stages.
“We are carefully planning how, when and where to introduce the Microsoft brand, over a significant period of time,” it reads.
Nokia still has the right to use its brand name for about 18 months for its Nokia Lumia range of devices and until December 31, 2015 for its Nokia X line of devices while it has almost 10 years to use its brand for mobile devices suggesting that the company can launch mobile devices under this brand for 10 more years in future.
Additionally, the document noted that Microsoft will rebrand Nokia retail stores and Nokia Care Centres eventually without stipulating a time frame for it. The company has given instructions to the employees who are transferred to Microsoft on how to maintain their social media profiles.
Employees are asked to state “I work for Microsoft and I work on the Microsoft devices business,” and not for Nokia. They were asked to reflect the same in their Facebook and LinkedIn profiles.
The document informed that Microsoft has not bought the assets regarding Nokia theme tune and the clasping hand animation. Hence, the company is allowed to continue using it in its promotional activities in the future until Microsoft completely wipes out the brand name.
