Microsoft recently announced its Windows Phone store has now grown huge to include more than 300,000 apps.
The Redmond based company confirmed the achievement through its updated ‘Microsoft by the Numbers‘ webpage which shows visual statistics about the company’s products and services. The page noted that the Windows Phone Store currently features more than 300,000 apps and games, while hundreds of new apps are being added each day.
In an interview with The Next Web, a Microsoft spokesman confirmed said that the company currently has more than 300,000 Windows Phone apps as the Windows Phone Store continues to grow. Statistics reveal that the Windows and Windows Phone app catalog, in the past year alone, has grown 94 per cent, while the number of active developers has grown by 50 percent, he said.
When asked about the period when the 300,000 apps milestone was reached, the spokesperson said the data “is as of end of June 2014.”
The Windows Phone Store, which debuted in October 2010, reached 100,000 apps in June 2012 and 200,000 in December 2013 meaning 100,000 apps were uploaded in the last six months.
In comparison, Microsoft still has a long way to go to catch up with rival Android, which is currently home to over 1 million apps and serving 50 billion downloads, and iOS, which has over 1.2 million apps and serving up 75 billion downloads till date.
