Microsoft, on Friday, has begun rolling out Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones build 10051 which adds the software giant’s new browser, Project Spartan among other things.
The new build includes an early version of the Project Spartan browser. Microsoft has confirmed that Internet Explorer 11 will still be the default browser, but now it will exist alongside Project Spartan in Windows 10 for phones. The Spartan browser features a brand-new rendering engine called Edge, which performs much faster than the Trident engine that powers IE.
Outlook Mail and Outlook Calendar are the new built-in mail and calendar universal apps for Windows 10, with a fresh UI and toggle to switch between mail and calendar without returning to the Start screen. Outlook Mail includes customisable Swipe Gestures, letting users’ swipe right or left to take actions like delete, flag, move, and mark as read/unread.
The build features new Phone and Messaging apps. Unfortunately Skype’s integration with the Messaging app does not appear to be part of this build. The People and Maps app are also redesigned. The build also adds a “four-up” view to the app switcher which will let users see more apps on the screen simultaneously.
There are some bug fixes like an updated keyboard layout, a fix for the Cortana icon resolution, a couple of Photos app fixes, and a solution for the issue that prevented the Microsoft Band from syncing with Windows 10.
The new build is initially being pushed out to Lumia 1020, Lumia 1320, Lumia 1520, Lumia 520, Lumia 525, Lumia 526, Lumia 530 (Dual-SIM), Lumia 535, Lumia 620, Lumia 625, Lumia 630 (Dual SIM), Lumia 635, Lumia 636, Lumia 638, Lumia 720, Lumia 730 (Dual SIM), Lumia 735, Lumia 810, Lumia 820, Lumia 822, Lumia 830, Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 928, Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 435 (Dual SIM), Lumia 435 Dual SIM DTV, Lumia 532 (Dual SIM), Lumia 640 Dual SIM and Lumia 535 Dual SIM smartphones.
For users who don’t have the Windows 10 preview on their Windows Phone, they can get it by signing up to be a Windows Insider and downloading the Windows Insider app from the Windows Store.
