Microsoft on Monday announced it has begun rolling out limited preview version of its new matter-centric document management and collaboration tool dedicated to attorneys and other legal professionals.
Redmond announced the intuitive document management and collaboration solution dubbed ‘Matter Center for Office 365’ at the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) annual conference in Nashville.
As claimed by the software giant, the new tool offers a host of new features that will aid both IT and legal professionals in managing a major section of their paperwork without much hassle. The document management tool will allow users to work with their important and confidential data without the risks of any security issues.
Centered towards law firms and law organizations, the new document management and collaboration solution allows legal professionals to easily find, organize, and collaborate on files seamlessly with Office 365 using the familiar Office tools they are used to.
Matter Center, which works alongside OneDrive for Business, offers users with 1TB of individual storage and a personal briefcase that automatically syncs documents for access from anywhere at any time.
The new tool will let legal professionals share files with each other and work simultaneously on documents with other attorneys and even track changes with automatic version control.
They will be able to easily search and find documents directly within Outlook or Word, and even track or pin frequently used documents. Security-enhanced access, permission controls as well as reduced overhead are some of the other features that Matter Center offers.
John Frank, vice president and deputy general counsel at Microsoft, said the company has built a security-enhanced, cloud-based document management application that allows professionals to quickly locate and collaborate on documents with the counsel from virtually anywhere.
He said it is at the request of Microsoft’s outside counsel that the company has decided to make this solution more broadly available for people who want to utilize it in their own environments.
