Microsoft has pulled back an update for PowerPoint 2013 released this month after users complained that PowerPoint didn’t work properly after installing it.
The February patch update KB2920732 was aimed at improving the stability, reliability and usability of PowerPoint 2013. But soon after its release, Windows RT device users started facing issues after installing the update including ‘unable to start PowerPoint’ issues.
After acknowledging the issue, Microsoft decided to withdraw the update and announced that “This update is currently unavailable. It is being revised to address an issue that is under investigation. The update will be restored when the issue is resolved.”
In the meantime, the Redmond has advised all the affected users to refresh their devices by following the instructions on Microsoft’s Support site. The company notes that the refresh will keep personal files and settings intact. However, if in case the refresh fails, the only option left will be to reset the device.
Microsoft has withdrawn several updates in the last couple of months. Last August a patch was pulled after causing Blue Screens of Death, then in October an update designed to add the SHA-2 hashing algorithm to Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 was withdrawn. In December Redmond pulled back three patches, for root certificates, Exchange 2010 and Excel.
