Now users can easily control functions of PowerPoint, Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office 2013 applications using their Windows Phone, thanks to Microsoft Research’s Office Remote App.
The app, which is somewhat similar to the SmartGlass mobile app for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, will allow users to run presentations on screen, or on a projector using their smartphone. This will offer users an option to wirelessly control their Office presentations, navigate between presentation slides and point out objects on screen with the help of a remote laser pointer using Bluetooth.
The Office Remote app will work with Microsoft Office 2013 only. User with Office 2013 RT or earlier versions of Microsoft Office won’t be able to use the app. Also the app will only be compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems. In order to use the app, the PC and the smartphone must have Bluetooth support.
“With Office Remote you can start your PowerPoint presentation, advance the slides, see your speaker notes, and control an on-screen laser pointer with a touch of your finger – all from your phone,” said Burt Van Hoof, project Manager.
“You can also navigate between Excel worksheets and graphs, and control data slicers from the palm of your hand”.
“And you can scroll through a Word document or quickly jump to specific sections or comments. Microsoft has also confirmed that the app will soon be rolled out to a “diverse society of devices”. This indicates that an iOS and Android version of Office Remote is surely in pipeline.
