Microsoft has updated its email service Outlook.com with a slew of new features including Advanced Rules, in-line reply and a new undo option.
The company in a blog post announced that it has started rolling out the update on Monday and all users will get it in the coming weeks.
“Starting today, we are releasing Advanced Rules and three other features, all to help you keep your inbox in top shape and make it even easier to see the email that matters to you,” read the blog post.
The Advanced Rules with more variables such as time of arrival, email tallying and sender could automatically sort and push emails to the appropriate folders. Users can combine the existing rules with the new variables for further organizing their Inbox.
Microsoft noted that the Reply button is used “almost 8 million times a day.” In response to this, the company has introduced in-line reply which allows users to reply to an email in the same view, to save time, and track conversations more easily.
There is also an Undo option, similar to the Ctrl+Z function that helps revert an accidental activity, which currently allows undoing a single activity. Some actions that can be undone using this button are moving back an email that was moved to a wrong folder, categorisation, flagging, moving emails to junk, etc.
Microsoft has also revamped the chat system making it easy for users to start a conversation with contacts. The contacts appear in a tiled view in a box on the bottom left corner of the window, and by clicking on a contact users can open a conversation.
With this update, users can continue an on-going conversation on a different service by switching over to the new service choosing an option listed on the right side of the chat session. The People list can be customized to view the contacts available online on other services such as Skype, Facebook, and so on.
