Microsoft has fulfilled its two weeks-old promise by delivering Dropbox integrating to its Office Mobile for Android app alongside updates that also brings in integration with its OneDrive storage solution as well.
Office apps for iOS viz. Word, Excel and PowerPoint for the iPhone and iPad were the first ones to receive support for Dropbox just days after Microsoft announced a deal with Dropbox.
“Fresh updates are available now for the Office Mobile app for Android phones, making it easier to access, edit and share online Office files from your Android phone”, Microsoft noted in a blog post.
Dropbox integration for Android is more or less the same as that available on iOS: users will be able to store and share documents in Dropbox directly from the app. They will also be able to edit the Dropbox files and save them back into Dropbox. Further they will also be able to share the files from their Android device itself.
The update will enable Office Mobile for Android users to easily edit, access and share their Office files from and Android phone. Further they will also be able to generate and share links to their documents in OneDrive and OneDrive for Business directly from inside the app itself.
In iOS, Microsoft has split the Office suite into three different apps, but in Android they have been clubbed under one umbrella app dubbed Office for Mobile.
One thing users need to keep in mind is that Office Mobile on Android as well as the Office apps for iOS are free for personal usage, those who need commercial usage need to have a business-grade subscription of Office 365.
Microsoft Office Mobile for Android doesn’t include support for Android tablets yet, though a beta has already been kicked off a few days back. Microsoft has said that it will rollout Office Mobile for Android tablets sometime in “early 2015.”
