Just hours after announcing the availability of Windows drivers for its Xbox One controller, Microsoft has published a pre-order listing of Microsoft Kinect v2 for PC on its store for $199 and an availability date of July 15.
To listing notes that the v2 of Kinect for PC is to be used with Kinect for Windows software development kit 2.0 indicating that the device is meant for developers rather than consumers who may want to start playing and using motion or voice-controlled games and apps on the PC.
The listing further notes that the sensor won’t ship with any software and that “it is intended for use with the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 (licensed separately) and will operate only with applications developed for Kinect for Windows v2.”
We have no information on the license cost of Windows SDK 2.0 for now, but will keep an eye out for any updates.
Microsoft recently announced that it will be releasing a Kinect-free version of Xbox One that will cost $100 less than the standard Xbox One version – a move that was heavily criticised by fans.
