Computing giant Microsoft has suffered more than most in the tech world over the last few years. Mainly as they had the most to loose. Previously it seemed that the whole world ran Microsoft operating systems in one form of another. It is a very different world now however and the computing giant has fallen far behind. After a series of failed upgrades to their operating systems, Microsoft has a lot of catching up to do.
Last week Microsoft announced the biggest shake up in its management structure in the history of the company. The pressure is on and the company is taking action it seems.
The latest version of the Microsoft operating system, Windows 8, has been widely criticized, as has their Windows 8 Mobile operating system. However the Windows 8 Mobile operating system did get a boost recently with the release of the, much anticipated, Nokia 1020 that runs Windows 8 Mobile. The new phone has a massive 41 MP camera, making it more of a camera, than a phone in reality, but both Nokia and Microsoft hope that it will help boost their respective market shares.
Microsoft has also spent a lot of time, (and publicity) for their tablet operating system they call ‘Surface’. Unfortunately there has been more press than product for ‘Surface’. There are signs that the shake up at Microsoft is ushering in a new thinking at the company as they try to regain their place as market leaders.
One sign of this new view is the news that Microsoft are working on the latest, must have in your product lineup, item that everyone is taking about. The so-called ‘Smartwatch’ that acts as an intermediary device between, smartphone, tablet and desktop operating system.
Only time will tell if this is more hot air from Microsoft or if they can pull together a killer product ahead of the competition.
