Microsoft has announced a replacement program for faulty Xbox One game console units which emit loud noises.
The decision was taken after Microsoft’s official forum was decked with complaints coming from new owners who reported their Xbox One consoles created a loud buzzing noise while running.
More than 800 users have taken their complaints to a thread on Microsoft’s official forum till now. The majority of the complaints are found to be coming from consumers who purchased the Xbox One without a Kinect motion sensor.
Microsoft acknowledged that some of the Xbox One consoles were emitting too much noise and said that it would replace the offending consoles for fully operational models.
“We have heard that a small number of Xbox One owners in some situations may hear a noise from the console that is too loud,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.
While the company made it clear that this issue does not affect the safety or functionality of the system, has asked the customers who are experiencing this issue to contact Xbox support, as it is exchanging those consoles for new systems, at the request of customers.
Microsoft’s Xbox One console, which was launched in November last year, has so far sold more than 5 million units worldwide and is trailing just behind rival Sony’s PlayStation 4 consoles.
The company is yet to disclose as how many customers might have been affected by the issue and as how long the exchange program will last.
