As the Windows XP end of support deadline of April 8 is nearing, Microsoft is trying every bit to make them aware of the approaching deadline and helping them in migrating to a more recently released operating system such as Windows 8.1.
Microsoft announced on Monday that that it will be offering a free data migration tool called PCmover Express for Windows XP in partnership with Laplink to help Windows XP users move to a new OS.
The data migration tool will help copy all the data, files and settings from user’s Windows XP PC to new PCs running latest OS like Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1.
This tool will copy files, music, videos, email and user profiles and settings from old PC to new device that too enabling Windows XP users to customise exactly what they want to bring over to their new device.
The data transfer tool will be made available for download sometime later this week in English via WindowsXP.com. The same will be released in French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish languages later in March, with Korean, Chinese, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese versions sometime later.
Also to make sure each and every Windows XP user gets the message; Microsoft will be sending out official notifications to the users via Windows update informing them that their OS support will end on April 8.
The notification will include a link to the Windows XP end-of-support website, where users can find all information on the end of support for the operating system. The notification message will reappear on 8th of every month going forward, unless the user disables Windows Update or migrates to a newer OS.
For users who are unsure about which version of Windows they are using, a special website AmIRunningXP.com has been designed which will automatically tell if a PC is running on Windows XP or a newer version of Windows. If the website detects Windows XP, it will provide guidance on how to upgrade the operating system before April 8 deadline.
