Rumours hinting that the secret press event planned in San Francisco for a select few journalists is aimed at the next major Windows OS appear to have a semblance of truth behind it. This could be inferred when Alain Crozier, President of Microsoft France said today “Last year, we were with a Windows 8 release, in a few hours, a few days we will release our new OS, Windows 9.”
Nicolas Petit, Director of Marketing and Operation had a different story to say, possibly to correct the president’s statement.
He said, “We look forward to seeing you in late September, in San Francisco, for the future of Windows, which actually at this stage does not have a name as such.” His wording, it appears is a cover-up, but still has some truth behind it.
Another inference of the statement is that the software is almost complete and some sources close to Microsoft even say copies of the OS has been shipped to some friendly journalist for review. This tactic it appears has been taken straight out of Apple’s books, but not much mileage can be derived out of it say reports.
It is also widely discussed that Crozier could have possibly misspoke on the release date. Rumours say that the actual release may be sometime in October and it may come with a different name altogether. But the fact that the French head of Microsoft said Windows 9 points to the fact that the name is still fresh in the minds of Microsoft officials.
