Microsoft has dismissed recent reports of the company paying cash incentives to Windows Phone OEM partners saying that the ‘numbers are complete fiction’.
Frank Shaw, Microsoft’s Lead of Communications, took to Twitter debunking allegations that Redmond is going to hand out cash to Samsung, Sony and Huawei in return of Windows Phone powered smartphones.
Eldar Murtazin, Editor in Chief of Mobile Review, claimed through a tweet earlier in the week that Microsoft will pay out $1.2 billion, $0.6 billion and $0.5 billion to Samsung, Huawei and Sony respectively to develop smartphones running on Windows Phone.
On this Shaw tweeted, “reality check. Do we do co-marketing with partners? You bet! But these numbers are complete fiction!”
Shaw revealed that Microsoft does spend money but that is all part of co-operations. Shaw further added that the company is covering OEM’s R&D costs and is providing them assistance to switch to Windows Phone to launch new smartphones.
Shaw didn’t rule out that Microsoft was working with Samsung, Huawei and Sony to launch new Windows Phone smartphones.
