Microsoft has confirmed a Windows 10 reveal event to be held on January 21 wherein it will be discussing not only consumer features, but will also talk about enterprise features and we presume it will involve some talk about the next version of their server operating system as well.
Microsoft will be hosting a Webcast as well as an in-person event in Redmond, which will Satya Nadella, Terry Myerson, Joe Belfiore and Phil Spencer talk about the upcoming Windows 10. According to reports, the executives will deliver a talk about consumer features of the OS first and will then talk about enterprise-specific features.
Those looking to get themselves heard by Microsoft as far as feature set for Windows 10 goes, this could very well be the last opportunity as Redmond will be freezing the feature set with no more new features expected till after the general release of the OS.
According to insiders, Windows 10 compliant hardware will see the light of the day as early as mid-2015 and latest by October 2015 giving an indication that Microsoft is planning to release Windows 10 sometime in the third quarter of 2015.
If we go in details about the feature we know that will make the final cut for Windows 10; they include the revamped Start menu; the new “task view”, virtual desktops as well as the ALT-TAB features; windowed apps; and the new “snap assist” capability.
Recent builds of Windows 10 have also provided us insights into what Microsoft has been building into Windows 10. There is this notifications feature alongside simplified OneDrive experience, hints of Cortana, Internet Explorer 12 and an improved app store.
These are all the consumer level features that Microsoft has been talking or dropping hits about; however, as far as business or enterprise users are concerned, we haven’t got a lot talk about. There have been rumours that Microsoft might offer business users a discount or could even provide Windows 10 for free or could even offer them a subscription package, but nothing is certain for now.
Earlier, Microsoft chief operating officer Kevin Turner had hinted that they will be discussing business-specific features, but a definite time frame hasn’t been provided. We assume that they could address these and more such concerns on January 21.
