Microsoft on Thursday announced a new Office subscription dubbed Office 365 Personal expected to arrive this spring for $69.99 per year or $6.99 per month.
While Microsoft’s $9.99-per-month Office 365 Home Premium allows users to use the service across up to five PCs or Macs, the new Office 365 Personal, designed for a single user, will serve just one PC or Mac, plus one tablet.
The software giant has also revealed that it will soon be renaming its Office 365 Home Premium subscription to Office 365 Home once Office 365 Personal goes live.
Senior marketing manager at Microsoft, Chris Schneider, in a blog post said “We’re committed to delivering a great Office experience to all of our customers and believe that giving you a choice about the Office 365 subscription that fits your unique needs is one way we can do that.”
“We’ll have more details to share closer to availability.”
The new subscription will include the usual Office 365 suite of products, like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and OneNote and will come with additional benefits in the form of 60 minutes of Skype call time per month and 20GB of extra OneDrive storage.
Microsoft claimed that its Office 365 Home Premium which was launched in January 2013 now has 3.5 million subscribers. The company hopes that its latest move will boost subscriber figures as the new cheaper subscription will attract more and more users.
