In an attempt to convince Windows XP users switch to a new and upgraded OS before April 8 deadline, Microsoft is offering $50 gift cards to those who buy a new Windows 8.1 device. According to recent data from StatCounter, more than 18 percent of computers across the globe are still running XP.
Microsoft, in order to get users ditch 13 year old Windows XP, has announced that users who opt for any one of 16 different Windows 8.1 machines will be offered a $50 gift card good for future purchases at the company’s e-store. The deal, which started on March 6, will last till April 30th or “until supplies last.”
The $50 incentive offer will come with four laptops, four tablets, four hybrids, and four all-in-ones to choose from, all running Windows 8.1, with Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet with a price tag of $230 being the cheapest of all the 16 devices.
In addition to the gift card, users who buy any one of the 16 devices will receive 90 days of free telephone and live-chat support, and will be able to download Laplink Express, the free file- and settings-transfer tool, which will help users easily transfer all their files, settings, and user profiles from the old machine to the new one.
Although the deal is valid until April 30, Microsoft has announced it could modify or discontinue the offer at any time.
yeah right, and exactly what will happen if you don’t upgrade
nothing its just a ruse to scare everyone into upgrading to the new super spy on everything you do operating system
W I N D O W S
we insure nothing done on windows is secure
there should be laws
to protect the public that force companies to support their software
and they should be required to put some money aside so support can be
continued by a 3rd party if needed, Microsoft can easily afford to do
that they need to be compelled to do that by laws,
It does not bother me anyway because I use Ubuntu and it is fantastic
