Micro, the first affordable consumer 3D printer proposed by the team M3D, reached its fundraising goal of $50,000 in 11 minutes and crossed $1M in just a day on Kickstarter.
Attracting almost 5,000 pledgers in the first 24 hours, the campaign will be open for 27 more days during which more pledges are expected.
The printer looks very simple with just a solid base covering the filament used for printing and a cubical structure inside which the actual printing would take place. It can print objects which measure up to 4.6 inches high. The print area is dimensioned at 4.6-inch x 4.2-inch x 4.4-inch while the printer itself measures just 7.3 cubic inches.
It has built in auto calibrate and auto level functions, which eliminate the need for users to do anything technical. Also, the maintenance can be very easy as it occupies only a small area and has a simple structure.
In addition, it can also work with open source software if the users want to go a bit technical on the things they want to print.
Micro is expected to be available for the pledgers at the end of the 4th quarter of 2014 or in the first quarter of 2015 following which the consumers in the open market will be able to buy it.
M3D wrote, “We also want you to know that we are committed to maintaining delivery schedules.”
It also added, “We always planned to eventually go into high-volume production. The additional pledges help us meet our production goals.”
