MediaTek is all set to enter the Internet of Things (IoT) and the wearables arena with the opening of MediaTek Labs, as the company has made major inroads into a business segment that is considered as overcrowded.
The initiative aims at helping developers of wearables and IoT devices. MediaTek’s core competence areas include designing processors and chipsets aimed at powering smartphone and feature rich phones.
The initiative is believed to be of great assistance to developers, makers and service providers by providing development kits including hardware, documentation and technical support. In addition MediaTek has also announced business support for developers.
Striking a hopeful note, Marc Naddell, vice president of MediaTek Labs said that with the launch of MediaTek Labs, the company is opening up a new world of possibilities for everyone — from hobbyists and students through to professional developers and designers — to unleash their creativity and innovation.
Further, he elaborated saying, “We believe that the innovation enabled by MediaTek Labs will drive the next wave of consumer gadgets and apps that will connect billions of things and people around the world.”
The MediaTek Lab website provides business and technology reviews, solutions catalogue, information on devices and full FAQ, and discussion forums for developers.
