Facebook is even ready to spend billions to meet its goal of bringing internet to every nook and corner of the world, claims Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg.
Addressing an event hosted by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim in Mexico City on Friday, Mark Zuckerberg said that the company is ready to do everything possible to connect the entire world with internet, even spend billions for the same.
“We feel a big responsibility to bring the Internet to more people,” said Zuckerberg, adding that connecting everyone is what that really matters and if it means spending billions of dollars over the next decade, Facebook is ready to make the plan possible.
Zuckerberg stressed that Facebook’s goal to connect everyone with internet is beneficial not only for the company but for the entire world over the long-term.
According to statistics published by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), over 3 billion people will have access to the Internet by the end of this year. With 1.3 billion users, Facebook already connects almost half of the world’s Internet-connected population.
Facebook launched its Internet.org project last year with a goal to connect billions of people in remote areas such as Africa and Asia that have no internet access yet.
Zuckerberg said that he believes when everyone will be on the Internet, all of the businesses and economies will be better.
He also added that he expects WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging service which the company acquired earlier this year, will become the global text messaging platform with over 2-3 billion users in near future.
