Linus Torvalds has released Linux 3.16-rc2 that incorporates usual bug fixes and refinements, but something that stands out this week is nearly 40 percent of the patch are related to sparc.
Torvalds notes that apart from the sparc related things, everything else looks normal as Linux 3.16-rc2 packs driver changes, tooling updates including those to perf, architecture updates – particularly in arm, s390, x86 and unicore32 among others, and other random updates in rtmutex, btrfs among other things.
Talking about the Saturday release, Torvalds notes that rc2 was released a day early as Sunday was inconvenient “due to being on the road most of the day”.
“These days most people send me their pull requests and patches during the week, so it’s not like I expect that a Sunday release would have made much of a difference”, he added further.
Linux 3.16 has already received a great deal of updates and improvements – primary among them being important contributions from NVidia to ensure that the open source version of Nouveau driver works properly. Further there have been improvements in the Synaptics driver; driver for Dell Latitude, and various KVM changes.
Some of the bug fixes in Linux 3.16-rc2 include those related to BIOS handover on the HASEE E200, incorrect “presence” status, integer overflow when calculating divisors, among others. FBC is now disabled by default on Haswell as well as later versions.
It
seems that the numbers of bugs are sorted out by the developer team of Linux in
this version. Well, I will definitely consider installing it after successfully
downloading it from the Linux platform. I even recently go through some free
hand on practice modules for Linux available at
