Linus Torvalds has released Linux-3.12-rc6 as he is flying out to attend a kernel summit taking place in Edinburgh.
Torvalds notes in the release announcement that nothing major happened this week and he expects the next week to be quiet as well because most of the core kernel maintainers will be busy attending the summit. Linux 3.12 final is due in two weeks’ time and we hope that the last week doesn’t turn out to be too noisy.
“I’m at PDX, about to fly out to the kernel summit, and it has almost become a tradition to do an rc release using the airport wifi. So here it is..” notes Torvalds.
“The patch is still busily being pushed out, but the git trees are up-to-date, and the tar-file should already be out”, he added.
Linux 3.12 has been codenamed ‘Suicidal Squirrel’. Some of the features included in Linux 3.12 are support for zRAM, AMD Berlin APU and Snapdragon DRM/KMS drivers; improvements in the open-source graphics driver section, upgrades to various Linux file-systems, a lot of work on ARM, revised version of SimpleDRM; full support for eLLC cache; improvement to Intel GMA-500 Poulsbo driver among others.
