LG has revealed that it will be demoing its latest technological innovation, HomeChat, at CES 2014 using which users will be able to control, monitor and talk to smart appliances at their home.
To be used along with Line Messenger, HomeChat, which takes advantage of Natural Language Processing, will allow users to “communicate, control, monitor and share content with LG home appliances”. Initially HomeChat will only understand English and Korean, but LG has revealed that more and more languages will be added.
LG revealed that it will also be announcing a new range of smart appliances at CES 2014, which users can control through HomeChat using a single device. LG said that sending out a message to HomeChat for example “I’m going on vacation” would invoke an automatic response “Should I convert to vacation mode?”
If the user’s reply is affirmative, HomeChat will then turn-on the power-saving mode of the refrigerator, set the robotic vacuum cleaner to clean the floor at 9:00 AM every day and set the washing machine such that it runs one wash cycle the day before the user is set to arrive.
Beyond this users will also be able to send out real time status updates which will be display on their refrigerator’s display panel; download up-to-date wash cycles, remotely start laundry and receive messages when a wash cycle is complete; converse with their smart ovens and find out ingredients required for a particular recipe among other things.
Further LG also revealed that it will be including NFC in each of its 2014 smart appliances and using Smart Diagnosis, customers will be able to resolve minor issues themselves without calling out home technicians.
Seong-jin Jo, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance Company said, “We’re excited to be able to bring to CES our smart appliances with the newest communication and intelligence capabilities.”
