Lenovo and Toshiba have blown the war trumpet against online retailers in India including Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon India stating that these companies are not authorised reseller of their products and customers should refrain from purchasing any of their products from their online portals.
Through an advisory on their respective websites, both the companies have warned buyers against buying products from these online retailers as they didn’t have any direct agreement with these companies and they haven’t been authorised to resell products.
Electronics is one of the fastest growing segments in India when it comes to online retail with a growth rate of 60 percent annually. Online retailers are known to offer huge discounts, which are said to hurt offline brick and mortar retailers.
The argument here is that online retailers don’t have the extra baggage that brick-and-mortar outlets have to carry and that’s the reason they are passing the savings onto their customers in the form of heavy discounts.
Flipkart and Snapdeal have clarified their stand on advisories put up by Lenovo and Toshiba. “We can assure our customers buying Lenovo products on Flipkart.com that they are genuine”, said a Flipkart spokesperson.
“Customers will continue to enjoy the warranty and services extended to all original Lenovo products as always,”
Snapdeal on the other hand said that the it is an online marketplace where authorised sellers list out their products for customers to buy and all products including those from Lenovo and Toshiba are genuine.
