Lenovo has recalled more than 500,000 AC power cords citing fire and burn hazard risks. According to the recall notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Tuesday, the affected power cords can potentially overheat resulting in a fire.
The defective power cords were manufactured between February 2011 and December 2011 and sold with IdeaPad brand B-, G-, S-, U-, V-, and Z-series laptops as well as Lenovo brand B-, G-, and V-series laptops between February 2011 and June 2012.
Lenovo announced the recall after it received 15 reports from outside the U.S. of incidents involving “overheating, sparking, melting, and burning.” No injuries have resulted from the incidents. The recall impacts about 500,000 units in the United States and another 44,000 in Canada.
In order to check if you too have one of the recalled cords just check if your cord has LS-15 stamped into the molding. You’ll also look for the manufacture date in the format REV: 00 YYMM on a label attached to the cord.
For those who have got an affected AC power cord, it has been suggested that you should stop using it immediately and contact Lenovo for a replacement. However, you can continue to use the computer on battery power in the meantime.
For any further details, affected users can contact Lenovo at 1-800-426-7378 between the hours of 9am – 5pm EST, Monday through Friday. Lenovo has also set up a support page for this issue, which includes a FAQ, and a complete rundown of potentially affected models.
