LaCie, Seagate Technology’s premium brand that makes exceptional external storage devices, will show off its three new storage solutions: LaCie 8big, 5big and 2big, at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show today.
All the three devices have Thunderbolt 2 technology, which perfectly complements Apple MacBook Pro’s potential with a combination of Seagate’s 6TB hard drives. The built in RAID will ensure that your data is safe while you take advantage of the massive storage capabilities of the devices.
The 8big is LaCie’s very first rackmount storage solution incorporating the Thunderbolt 2 technology. As the name suggests, it can hold up to eight 6TB 7200RPM drives which translates into 48TB with speeds of up to 1330MB/s.
With options of 4 or 8 disk configurations, you can have a very compact storage unit which is barely 1.75 inches tall. If you own a MacBook Pro, you can connect six sets of 6 8big devices to it and interlink them all to create a whopping 1728 TB of storage space.
The 5big delivers speeds of up to 1050MB/s with up to 30TB storage, i.e., it includes five 6TB drives from Seagate. This superfast drive also comes in 10TB and 20TB storage capacities.
As the name suggests, LaCie 2big offers up to 12GB storage with variations of 6TB and 8TB and speeds of up to 420MB/s. This most versatile drive also has USB 3.0 which means it can be used pretty much with any computer.
These devices come with a standard three-year limited warranty and the company also offers extension on warranty for users who choose to avail it. The warranty is accompanied by web resources that enable better utilisation of the devices and also worldwide repair and replacement coverage as applicable.
Pricing information will be announced when the devices are available for sale which can be expected sometime within this quarter.
